As a group of archeologists, scientists and cave explorers you accidentally discover the truth behind the mysterious disappearance of a previous expedition that was pronounced dead years ago.
The Abyssveins form an unending subterranean realm whose lightless corridors and cathedral-sized chambers stretch beneath entire continents, threaded by rivers that have never seen the sun. Explorers who descend its vertical shafts speak of strange creatures who roam the depths some friendly and some are deadly.
Green lizard child.
Cool guy.
Tiny moth.
Annoying bat.
friendly little guys that are definitely not an uglier version of Deep Sea Bunnies from a certain horror game..........
Annoying bat.
a force that communicates only one thing. "bow."
if you don't comply, a wave of something unidentifiable floods the segment you are currently in, taking anyone who doesn't listen to it.
it hears all, sees all and observes all. looks like a dinosaur-moose eldritch horror, uses horn-ears for echo locations and attacks when you are detected.
Bill
lil big guy that stays in his foggy lil cave segment, hates noise, if you make any his head will peak out through the fog and his eyes will petrify your braincells
Apolthrax
follows you around the entire game, if you get too far from the group you will be attacked.
Locarth
this guy has a heightened sense of direction, when you enter the maze part of the cave segment he will use the tight pathways to his advantage, trying to find a spot to trap you in a dead end. he is slow, if you're quick with your decisions you can get away, unharmed
lil slimy guy that will slowly move up your screen and stare at you if you're afk for too long
a species that evolved to deceive. resembling the look of a harmless pill bug, taking advantage of your blind trust and jumping up, latching onto the back of your skull like a tick, burrowing into your head and slowly feeding on its host. the lower, back part of your brain is responsible for vision, if it interferes with that you start to hallucinate, believing you are perfectly fine, reassuring your teammates as they watch in horror. if you do not seek help from other teammates, you will eventually die over time while experiencing confusing hallucinations. the only way to save a teammate from this painful death is to rip off the parasite before it causes too much damage.
Blah, blah, blah
“Into the Abyss: Spelunkers Face Unimaginable Horrors in Newly Discovered Cave System" By: {REDACTED} Senior Adventure Correspondent Date: February 25, 2008 In a harrowing tale of exploration and survival, a group of seasoned spelunkers ventured into an undiscovered cave system deep beneath the earth’s surface, only to encounter a nightmarish series of creatures and conditions that tested the very limits of human endurance. When the expedition team set out to explore the uncharted limestone caverns, they had no idea that their journey would turn into a fight for survival against unknown terrors. The group, a mix of veteran cave explorers and geologists, embarked on the expedition with hopes of mapping the vast, unexplored system near the remote foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Armed with state-of-the-art equipment and months of training, they entered the cave system, believing it to be another challenge of the subterranean world. What they didn’t know was that this cave held far darker secrets than any of them could have anticipated.
A Descent into Madness Within hours of entering the cave’s entrance, the team quickly realized something was wrong. The cave, eerily silent and unnaturally cold, seemed to warp around them. At first, the stalactites and stalagmites appeared to shimmer in an unsettling pattern, almost as if they were alive. It was then that they encountered their first true horror: a massive, blind creature that skittered across the rocky floor, its body covered in writhing tendrils. The team barely escaped the initial encounter, but the sense of foreboding lingered. As they ventured deeper into the cave, they found themselves battling an escalating onslaught of grotesque creatures that defied logic. With each step deeper into the cave, the team grew more desperate, encountering bizarre bioluminescent insects that seemed to hypnotize their prey, and even hallucinating from the toxic fumes that wafted through narrow tunnels. Some survivors would later report seeing shadows that didn’t belong, their eyes glinting with malice and an intelligence far beyond what they had ever imagined.
The True Horror of the Deep The real test of survival came when the group stumbled upon a chamber unlike any they had seen before—an immense underground lake, its surface smooth and reflective. But the water was not the calm it appeared to be. As the team approached, strange shapes began to emerge from the depths, rising from the murky water like the spiny appendages of ancient sea creatures. One by one, members of the group began to disappear, pulled under by unseen forces.
By the time they managed to escape the lake’s grip, only five of the original ten remained. The survivors, their minds frayed and bodies battered, began to lose their grip on reality, constantly hearing whispers and seeing things that weren't there. One spelunker, who later recounted the ordeal, described being stalked by a creature he could never describe fully—a shifting, incomprehensible shape that left only a feeling of suffocating dread. When the group finally emerged from the cave’s depths, nearly three days had passed. They were filthy, covered in cuts and bruises, and visibly shaken. Their bodies bore the marks of close encounters with creatures far outside human experience, but it was their mental state that had been most irrevocably damaged. Several team members have since been hospitalized for what experts are calling "profound psychological trauma," with reports of PTSD-like symptoms, including paranoia, agoraphobia, and severe anxiety.
An Expedition Cut Short This expedition, though officially concluded, has raised more questions than answers. Local authorities have cordoned off the cave system, and it remains under investigation. Experts warn against further exploration of the site, suggesting the cave may be home to an ecosystem unlike anything on the surface, teeming with dangers that even the most experienced spelunkers may not survive. "This cave system is not just another geological marvel—it is a living, breathing enigma," said Dr. Helena Clark, an expert in cave biology. "What these explorers encountered goes far beyond the natural world. It’s as though the cave has a life of its own, a dark intelligence that preys on the minds of those who enter." Though the survivors are haunted by their experiences, they have made it clear that they will not return to the cave. Their story serves as a grim reminder of the dangers that lie beneath the surface, where the unknown lurks in the darkest corners, waiting to ensnare those brave—or foolish—enough to seek it out. As the team attempts to rebuild their lives and come to terms with the horrors they faced, one thing is certain: they will never be the same. The cave, with its unimaginable terrors, has claimed a part of them that may never fully recover.
